If you're trying to find out if a phone for sale is genuine, an IMEI number will tell you if a phone is already locked to a certain network so it might not work with your SIM , if it's been reported as stolen, and information about its warranty status and repair status. Another way to check whether an OPPO smartphone is what it claims to be is to look for its model name and number. If a counterfeit phone seems to work, what harm can it do? The answer is: plenty. As well as risking an unsatisfying experience when a phone doesn't work as advertised, counterfeit phones and accessories can also be health and safety hazards or put your personal data at risk.

OPPO smartphones go through strict security checks before they're made available to consumers. By contrast, many counterfeit phones contain pre-installed malware designed to access the user's sensitive data. As well as malicious apps, many of these are installed at the system level and require rooting the phone to eradicate.

Genuine OPPO smartphones have passed stringent health and safety checks to confirm they don't contain any harmful and restricted substances before going on sale.

Cheap knock-off phones don't bother with such checks and may contain heavy metals such as cadmium and lead at levels that are hazardous to health. Many of these phones also contain nickel on the surface, which can trigger allergies. Any phone may be damaged if it's subjected to too much wear and tear, but counterfeit phones are usually made from cheap and flimsy materials that damage more easily than official phones.

If a fake phone drops from your pocket, expect the device to stop working and the screen to shatter into shards.

Fake smartphones may pose immediate danger to users by giving electric shocks. This is because the phones are made in factories where no quality control or safety procedures are enforced. Using a non-brand charger or other incompatible equipment and accessories with a genuine phone can also lead to overheating or damage your device. It goes without saying that the person who sold your counterfeit phone isn't going to offer a refund or exchange if your phone stops working or develops a fault. Smartphones sold without a valid warranty offer no recourse to the buyer, who will have to pay for repairs or a replacement.

If an official phone develops an issue, you can take it to your nearest Customer Service Centre where it may be eligible for free repairs. If you spot a disreputable seller offering counterfeit phones, or you accidentally buy a fake phone, you should report them to the federal police, notify the website or premises where these devices are being sold and contact OPPO customer service.

If you only find out that a phone is counterfeit after you've already bought it, you can try to arrange a refund by returning the device before you make a report, but refunds are unlikely to be granted. But the implication of that is that OPPO is actively promoting the use of its own, similarly-featured store and services instead of Google's.

  5. While avoiding Google is desirable for some users, the majority are going to find it obnoxious that OPPO didn't just show both icons and instead chose to hide Google Play out of view. Similar situations cropped up in other areas and with other services. That's in addition to other quirks throughout the OS that aren't consistent with stock Android. There's nothing unusual about smartphones shipping with aftermarket apps.

OEMs thrive on partnerships that deliver good experiences to users and a new audience to app developers. The usual extras such as Facebook and Google apps. Music and video players, file manager, gallery app, and device manager are included, as are helpful apps for device theming or weather tracking. There's a compass, sound recorder, and a calculator built-in. Most apps can be uninstalled and not every extra is unneeded or feels useless. It also comes with a music party app for playing media from multiple OPPO devices at once. And there's an app for instant paid access to foreign and domestic networks.

Unfortunately, that's just the start of the extra apps. One prime example of that is the pre-installed "Game Center" app. That's an extension of the secondary App Market installed here in addition to Google Play. The app delivers game suggestions. There's an entirely separate folder that does the same for apps. Things don't end there either. That's in spite of the fact that it doesn't perform like it is.

OPPO Reno 2 – The Bad Review

Because the OPPO Reno 2 is actually not a bad camera, the gallery of sample photos can be found in the good review linked at the top here. Unfortunately, this section exists because, like most negative attributes of this phone, there are problems with the layout of the software. The issue I found wasn't finding individual features. Like most modern smartphones, AI is managing things here.

So, for the most part, I didn't need to adjust things. Night, "Pano," Expert, timelapse, slow motion, AR stickers, and even Google Lens can be found under a three-dash menu right next to that. It wasn't until I began exploring the icons at the top that things got complicated. After around a week of using the camera, I still couldn't quite remember what all of those were without clicking on them.

That's because different icons are used but that isn't the only issue. Visible elements change quite dramatically depending on which camera mode is selected too.

Activate and use Find My Device

Most companies keep quite a lot of consistency there. For example, the lens-selection icon is simply a set of close circles with an empty space between and a larger empty dot at the center. Or it's a closed-dot circle with another ring around it and a dashed ring between those. Or it's a square with a set of circles in it. The settings icon is a bolt-head or nut instead of a gear. Unlike many competitors, there's no initial explanation of the interface or tools in the current software either.

OPPO's differences make things more complicated and it ended up feeling just slightly overwhelming to use. Now, this smartphone's display panel in terms of clarity, responsiveness, pixel-density, or brightness, is brilliant. Everyone loves a good value, right?

This value translates into the rest of the phone, from the design, the materials, the camera, to the performance. It has proven to be a reliable, speedy, and capable performer. Yes, the Reno 2 is quite thick at 9. I like the design too, with the flush camera lenses adding style and making the phone look quite different from most other phones available at the moment.

The little dot under the camera raises the phone off the surface of a table to stop the lenses scratching, too. Even Color OS has improved over previous versions. It has long been, and remains, the part I like least about Oppo phones. The Oppo Reno 2 has already been announced internationally and is available to buy in India, China, and elsewhere.

This is a little cheaper than the Pixel 3a XL in the U. The camera is extremely capable, taking strong photographs with any lens, and with plenty of usable special features that enhance the fun and creatively around it. The photos Previous Next. Previous Next.
